Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about booking flights and hotels and paying with crypto.

Paying with crypto

How do I pay for a flight or hotel with crypto?
Search and select your flight or room as usual, enter your traveler details, then choose Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC or USDT at checkout. We generate a payment invoice with a QR code and address — scan it with any wallet or paste the address, send the exact amount shown, and your booking confirms automatically once the payment is detected on-chain.
Which cryptocurrencies can I pay with?
You can pay with Bitcoin (on-chain and Lightning), Ethereum, Solana, BNB, Polygon, Base, Avalanche, Tron and Monero, plus the USDC and USDT stablecoins across several networks (Ethereum/ERC-20, Tron/TRC-20, Solana and Base). Stablecoins give you a fixed, dollar-pegged price with no volatility; native coins settle directly on their own networks.
Do I need an account to pay?
No. You can book and pay entirely as a guest — just provide traveler details and an email for your confirmation. Creating a free account is optional and only needed if you want to save trips, manage bookings in one place, or earn rewards.
Are there any fees for paying with crypto?
bitfares does not add a crypto surcharge — you pay the price displayed. The only extra cost is the network (miner/gas) fee your wallet charges to broadcast the transaction, which goes to the blockchain, not to us. Stablecoins on low-fee networks keep this to a few cents.

Rates & pricing

Is the price I see the price I pay?
Yes. Prices are shown in USD and converted to crypto at the moment you reach checkout. That crypto amount is locked, so what the invoice shows is exactly what you send — no moving target while you pay, and all taxes and fees are already included.
How does rate locking work?
When your payment invoice is created, we show you an exact crypto amount to send at the current exchange rate. Send that amount and it is exactly what you pay — you are never charged more without seeing it first.
What if I send the wrong amount?
If you underpay, your booking stays open and shows the remaining balance to send. If you overpay, our support team will arrange a refund of the difference to a wallet address you provide. Scanning the QR code (which encodes the exact amount) avoids this entirely.

Bookings & confirmation

When do I get my booking confirmation?
As soon as your payment reaches the required network confirmations, your booking is finalized automatically and your e-ticket (flights) or hotel voucher is emailed to you. Stablecoin and Ethereum payments usually confirm in under a minute; Bitcoin on-chain typically takes 10–30 minutes.
Are the flights and hotels real and bookable?
Yes. bitfares pulls live availability and pricing from the same global flight and hotel inventory used by major travel agencies. Flight prices come from live airline fare data and hotels from leading accommodation suppliers, so what you see is real and bookable.
Can I book flights and a hotel together?
You can book both on bitfares, paying for each with the crypto of your choice. Each booking generates its own invoice and its own confirmation, so a flight paid in BTC and a hotel paid in USDC each arrive as a separate voucher.

Refunds & cancellations

Can I cancel my booking?
It depends on the fare or rate you booked. Refundable and free-cancellation options are clearly labeled before you pay; non-refundable fares are cheaper but can't be cancelled for a refund. Always check the fare rules or room policy shown on the booking page before confirming.
How do refunds work when I paid in crypto?
Approved refunds are returned in the same cryptocurrency you paid with, to a wallet address you provide. Because crypto prices move, refunds are calculated on the fiat value of your booking and paid out at the rate at the time the refund is processed. Stablecoin (USDC/USDT) refunds return the same dollar value.

Security & support

Is bitfares custodial? Do you hold my crypto?
For Bitcoin and our main coins, no. Bitcoin runs through BTCPay Server, a self-hosted, open-source processor we operate ourselves, and every other main coin is sent straight to a wallet we control — in both cases funds move directly from your wallet to settlement, and we never see your private keys or seed phrase. The one exception is the 20 additional coins listed under “Pay with another coin”: those are processed by NowPayments, a third-party provider, so your payment passes through them before it reaches us. We label those coins clearly at checkout so you can choose. We never ask for your seed phrase or private keys on any payment method.
How do I know the payment page is secure?
Every payment uses a unique, freshly generated address tied only to your order — addresses are never reused. The checkout runs over HTTPS, and bitfares will never ask for your seed phrase, private keys, or wallet password. If anyone claiming to be bitfares asks for those, it's a scam.
How do I get help with a booking or payment?
Support is available 24/7 via our contact page and email at [email protected]. For payment issues, have your order/invoice ID and transaction hash ready — that lets us trace an on-chain payment in minutes. Most crypto payment questions are resolved same-day.
What if I sent the wrong coin or used the wrong network?
Contact support right away with your order ID and the transaction hash. Recovery isn't always possible on the blockchain, but if the funds reached an address we control we'll do everything we can to return or credit them. To avoid this, always scan the QR code and send only the coin and network shown on your payment page.

Coins & networks

Which coins and networks can I use?
Bitcoin (on-chain + Lightning), Ethereum, Solana, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Base, Avalanche, Tron and Monero — plus USDC and USDT stablecoins on Ethereum (ERC-20), Tron (TRC-20), Solana and Base. Choose your coin at checkout and we show the exact address and amount for that network.
Can I pay over the Lightning Network?
Yes. Choose Bitcoin at checkout and you'll get both an on-chain address and a Lightning invoice. Lightning is near-instant and costs a fraction of a cent, which makes it ideal for smaller bookings, while on-chain is better suited to larger amounts.
Which network is cheapest for stablecoins?
For USDT and USDC, Tron (TRC-20), Solana and Base have the lowest network fees — usually a few cents. Ethereum (ERC-20) works too but gas fees are higher. What you owe bitfares is identical on any network; only your wallet's network fee differs.
Do you use a third-party payment processor?
No. Bitcoin settles through our own self-hosted payment server and every other coin is paid directly to our wallet addresses. There's no external gateway in the middle — your payment details are generated and shown right here on bitfares.
Is there a minimum payment amount?
There's no fixed minimum, but on higher-fee networks a very small payment can be dominated by the wallet's network fee. For small bookings, Lightning or a low-fee network such as Solana or Tron is the most cost-effective choice.

Flights & hotels

Can I choose cabin class and add baggage?
Yes. On flight search you can pick Economy, Premium Economy, Business or First, and during booking you can add cabin and checked baggage. The price updates instantly as you change options.
Do you offer one-way and round-trip flights?
Both. Use the Round trip / One way toggle at the top of flight search — the return-date field appears automatically for round trips.
Will I receive a real e-ticket or voucher?
Yes. Once your payment confirms, your e-ticket (flights) or hotel voucher is emailed to the address you provided, along with your booking reference for check-in and support.
Are taxes and fees included in the price?
Yes — the total you pay already includes taxes and mandatory fees. Nothing is added after checkout; the crypto amount on your invoice is the full, final price.

Account & privacy

Do I need to complete KYC or identity verification?
No identity verification is required to book and pay. We only collect the traveler details airlines and hotels require — your name as it appears on your ID, and an email for the confirmation.
What personal data do you collect?
Only what's needed to complete your booking: traveler names, a contact email, and your trip details. We never ask for your seed phrase, private keys or wallet password. Bitcoin and our main coins are non-custodial; the additional coins at checkout are handled by our payment provider, NowPayments.
Can I pay privately with Monero?
Yes. Monero (XMR) is supported for travelers who want maximum privacy. Select Monero at checkout and send to the address shown; your booking confirms once the payment is received.
