1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a site stores in your browser. Bitfares uses very few — the full list is below. We set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
2. Cookies we use
| Cookie | What it does | Lifetime | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| bf_user | Keeps you signed in — stores the email and display name you entered so the site can greet you and pre-fill forms. Set only when you sign in. | 30 days | Functional |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics — distinguishes visitors so we can see aggregate usage (pages visited, device type, rough location). | Up to 2 years | Analytics |
| Cloudflare Turnstile (e.g. __cf_bm) | Bot protection on the sign-in and contact forms — helps tell humans from automated traffic. | Minutes to hours | Security |
3. Analytics and consent
Analytics cookies help us understand how the site is used in aggregate; they are not used for advertising. You can block them without affecting bookings or sign-in.
For legal review: The site currently loads Google Analytics on first visit without a consent banner. In the EU/UK (ePrivacy/PECR), analytics cookies generally require prior opt-in consent. Owner decision needed before publishing: add a consent banner that gates the analytics script, switch to a cookieless analytics setup, or accept the risk for the markets served. This policy's wording should then be updated to match whichever choice is made.
4. How to control cookies
- Your browser's settings let you view, block or delete cookies for this or any site.
- Blocking the bf_user cookie simply means you stay signed out — booking still works.
- Google offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics across all sites.
